Local 121 - Amazing Turnout for the Bees!
Last night there was wonderful celebration of the Honey Bee at an event held at Local 121 in Providence. Following on the heels of our register donation coupon at Whole Foods Market University Heights to raise money for research into Colony Collapse Disorder (which brought in $1,777) we partnered with Local 121 (a restaurant dedicated to serving only local foods) and the RI Beekeepers Association for a screening of a documentary called "Silence of the Bees."
With all the great press we received (thank you Gail, Kathie, Jennifer and Paul) we had an amazing turnout that created standing-room only for this event!Special thanks to Nancy and Joshua Miller of Local 121 for their concern about the issue and for generously hosting this event; to Everett Zurlinden, president of the RI Beekeepers Association for emceeing the event and answering so many questions following the film; and to Everett and his wife Lisa for the generous free samples of honey they shared with the crowd; to Brooks at Burt's Bees for samples and gift basket; to Susan at Dryer's (Haagen-Dazs) for the wildflower seeds and window clings; to Ben Kortright for the great graphic arts and my friends from Massachusetts!
Thanks also to the Marketing Team Leaders at Whole Foods Market Hingham, Medford, Brighton, Bellingham, and our three Cambridge stores for signing up to feature the register donation coupons at their stores!

It was a great evening for public education about the importance of bees and local beekeeping. There was the right mix of learning and fun, thanks to the raffle and the "freebees" from generous donors, including Evertt and Lisa. I wanted to endorse the idea of having more educational evenings sponsored by RIBA that vary the Sunday afternoon meeting pattern. An evening in Providence can be more convenient for many folks interested in bees.
