Financial assistance, and a survey for bee locations
At the bottom of this note is a press release from the NRCS. I encourage everyone to go to their website and call them asking for information to what they have and how you can beneft from it.
I am going to put up a web page asking for some simple information about what kind of land your bees are on and how many hives you have etc. No names or any personal info will be required.
The information will show the general distribution of managed colonies in the area, and the classification of land on which they are kept. Organizations such as the NRCS www.ri.nrcs.usda.gov/ offer project funding and grant aid to help individuals with conservation efforts. There are many aspects of beeking that are categorised as being good for the environment – members should contact the NRCS and see what is available. For example, having bees in outyards has a beneficial environmental affect due to pollination; the complete acreage of the outyards can be used to calculate the total area affected by the beekeepers efforts and hence allow them to receive financial aid associated with the scale of their involvment.
Visit NRCS and please take the time to do the questionnaire when I release it!
Mike

Information on registering for the workshops is located in the attached invitation.
